Road this trail from Dalton to Messner RD in Massillon on Mother’s Day. I hacked this trail two years ago and you can tell there hasn’t been much maintenance done. The paved area was bumpy. The graveled area was much smoother. Caution at the bridges because the steel plates are rough at the transition from trail to bridge. I find the foot traffic is low on the paved area. No foot traffic when you get to the gravel section. Everyone is friendly on the path and the views are outstanding. Saw a few squirrels and one ground hog. The shaded tree area by the creek is so relaxing. No trash along the trail, so it’s nice to see users are helping keeping it clean.
Last Friday a buddy and I rode the Niles Greenway & the Metroparks Bikeway. While I liked the Metroparks section a tad better the Niles was certainly nice. There were a few nice bridges to ride over and a fantastic picnic area at the north trailhead. I believe the length on TrailLink for this trail is incorrect though. According to the signs along the trail it is 3.87 miles long and that matches pretty closely to what I got on my Garmin. The Niles is a bit more urban or light industrial and has 10 road crossings so keep that in mind. If you're on the Metroparks trail be sure to ride the Niles also.
While in the area we stopped at this trail. Parked at the only parking lot, on Wexford Bayne Road, and headed South. Surface was crushed stone and about 8 feet wide. Very nice for walking or small children bicycling. We walked this trails entire length and back. Just beyond where the limestone ends is a culvert and large deep creek so you can't go any farther and there isn't anything ahead anyhow. This trail is surrounded by private property on each side, some business on the one side and residential homes on the other side. About 1/4 of a mile into the trail is the Rachel Carson hiking trail. It goes up the the chamber of commerce building.
The trail is mostly paved except for the Wv part and the end in pa Multiple parking areas. The trail is remote on the Wv side and a 16 mile up hill climb. Then down hill. The trail is not shaded
Trail still says it's closed, could the Great Trail Boy Scout trust be the reason?
Ok section, kind of dull. Agriculture & cows. Found a bit of shade by a grain elevator for lunch. Several washouts filled with tumbleweeds as you get closer to Lind.
This trail has really gone down hill. Rode it the other day and my wrist hurt for days because of how rough it is. Used to be my favorite trail now it’s barely rideable.
Great scenic country trail. Paved the whole way and no incline.
Great trail to downtown wadsworth. Would love to see it extended!
February 2025 weeks of ice and snow and cold weather. The snow had melted off but the actual trail remained very icy. Use caution!
Winter Walk, January 2025. Plenty of snow on the trail. At this time a little icy. Can XC ski it. Or ride fat tire bike.
